Chapter Twenty Two – Deception Creek

“Maggie talked to her mom on the phone, it was a new day.

“You can’t come home now, I practically won’t let you,” is what Lynn told her. “I think if you come home now, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.” So Maggie was staying, giving another try, and she was over her sadness from the night before. Emotions run strong on a long journey, but a new morning is always refreshing. A blank slate to try again.

“If you ever want to quit, sleep on it and decide the next day,” was good advice we later received from a lady named Bearclaw.”

We didn’t know what to do about the snowbound Washington PCT which we were finding unnavigable. We sat around the ski lodge at Steven’s Pass for a long time before we came up with our plan. Plan B, can’t hike so we’ll just live in the woods in Washington. With the idea in mind, we hiked off into the Deception Creek trail…
